Maros was born in Geleen, a former mining town in the southern province of Limburg.
Maros creates images. Pictures. To do so he uses a photo camera. The images tell us something about people. About the way they relate to each other, according to him. About how they see themselves. More often than not there's a disturbing aspect in the images. 'Space', in the broad sense, is lacking. Space is limited. Breathing space is limited. Margins for manoeuvre are confined. Spreading your wings? No space! The caracters are curtailed.
The images look like fancy dress parties, or like a theater farce. Carnival-like, grotesque, burlesque. Clearly staged, conceived. Own free will? Seems to be impossible, excepted probably by self-inflated egos. Someone pulls the strings, someone out of view. Strings that are left visible in some pictures.
Who? Why?
Tinkering, the suggested surrounding. Smallish, narrowish. No grand gesture, no ideals dawning on the horizon. Confinement. Disturbance.
At what aim? What do we have to do with it?
Welcome in the worlds of
Tableaux Troublants.
